Southeastern United States – World Jewish Congress Representative Renee Evans (Georgia), recognized for her commitment to fostering international and interfaith alliances, joined Israeli Consul General Anat Sultan-Dadon and a delegation of Georgia state representatives in Western North Carolina to offer aid and support to communities devastated by Hurricane Helene.
Touring severely affected areas in Haywood and Madison counties, the delegation delivered essential supplies, including meals, clothing, blankets, and heaters, to assist residents in their recovery.
The visit, organized with local officials, also served to reinforce the enduring friendship between the United States and Israel. Sultan-Dadon expressed deep solidarity with those impacted by the hurricane, stating, “I think that is something Israelis have in common with the strength of people here,” drawing a connection between the resilience of Israelis and the strength of the Western North Carolina community.
The delegation’s tour included the heavily affected town of Canton, with additional stops in Burnsville to meet with local leaders and discuss long-term recovery efforts. The event underscored the international community’s concern and commitment to supporting the Southeast in recovering from one of the region’s most significant storms in recent memory.
