US federal prosecutors have submitted videos of Ivan Demjanjuk to a Cincinatti court to prove that the former Nazi death camp guard is not too ill to stand trial in Germany for Nazi war crimes. Prosecutors said the videos showed the 89-year-old walking and talking animatedly. The video was filmed on 6 April. When, on 14 April, agents carried Demjanjuk from his home, he groaned and was carried out of his house on a stretcher.
An arrest warrant claims Demjanjuk was an accessory to some 29,000 deaths during World War II in Nazi-occupied Poland. The appeals court halted Demjanjuk's deportation shortly after immigration officers took him from his home. The court has since requested detailed records about Demjanjuk's medical condition to see if he's healthy enough to travel.
