NEW YORK - Seventy-five years ago today, World War II in Europe came to an end with Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender. Commenting on this momentous anniversary, World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder declared, “This is a day for us all to pause and remember the grievous toll exacted on humanity—and on the Jewish people in particular—by the Nazi German regime and its multinational accomplices.”
“It is also a day to pay tribute to the gallantry of the men and women of so many nations who fought to save humankind from the scourge of the Hitlerite evil. We bow our heads at the memory of all those Allied soldiers, resistance fighters and partisans who laid down their lives to bring an end to unimaginable tyranny and barbarism. Their heroism and sacrifice will remain a source of inspiration for us and for future generations.”
