Members of the Egyptian parliament have asked the government to ban pop singer Madonna from entering the country saying she not be granted a visa if she applies and she should not be allowed to perform or shoot videos in the country. The proposed ban is apparently related to Madonna's devotion to Cabbala, a mystical offshoot of Judaism, and to her recent pilgrimage to Israel to celebrate the Jewish New Year, which many in Egypt considered inconsiderate to Palestinians. One member of parliament, Ahmad al Taibi, told a local newspaper that he wished the singer would try and learn from other international stars such as Richard Gere and Julie Christie "who came to the occupied lands and showed their support for the suffering of Palestinians."
