The World Jewish Congress has opened an internship position at its headquarters in New York to assist with the diplomatic activity of the WJC, advocacy at the United Nations in New York and other programs and needs of the office.
The WJC is the international organization that represents over 100 Jewish communities and organizations around the world. It advocates on their behalf towards governments, parliaments, international organizations and other faiths. The WJC represents the plurality of the Jewish people, and is politically non-partisan.
This internship opportunity is best fitted to those individuals looking to learn about the Jewish communities worldwide, to experience working in the diplomatic arena, to learn and understand the UN system, to improve their drafting and research skills and to gain practical experience in the work of a large organization.
Job description:
The intern will work closely with the International Relations Associate. S/he will assist in the day-to-day work, inter alia, preparation for diplomatic meetings, conferences and events, and drafting of policy papers and reports.
Qualifications:
The position is open to students and graduates in international relations, politics, law, communications or related subjects.
The successful applicant will have strong commitment to Human Rights/international issues as well as commitment and understanding of the Jewish diaspora interests.
Strong oral and written communication skills in English are required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, independent thinking and initiative are essential.
Terms and conditions:
The internship position is unpaid. Travel expenses may be paid on a circumstantial basis. Students should check with their academic institution if they are able to gain academic credit for their internship with the World Jewish Congress.
Interns are asked to commit for a minimum period of 3 months on a full-time or part-time basis.
