Remembering the victims of ethnic cleansing in Prijedor

During the Bosnian War of 1992-1995, Bosnian Serb political leaders and military forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina committed mass murder in an attempt to ethnically cleanse Bosniak Muslim and Croat civilians. In April 1992, thousands of non-Serb civilians from the region of Prijedor were confined to Omarska, Keraterm, and Trnopolije concentration camp, where they were murdered, beaten, raped, and starved. 

The International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia charged 27 Bosnian Serbs with atrocities committed inside and outside the Omarska death camp, 13 of whom have been convicted as of today.

On 31 May each very year, the victims of ethnic cleansing in Prijedor are commemorated in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and internationally as well. In total, 3,173 innocent people were killed in Prijedor, including at least 256 women and 103 children.
