On the morning of July 18, 1994, the Argentinian Jewish community suffered a devastating terrorist attack: the bombing of the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA) Jewish community center, in which 85 people were killed and over 300 wounded.
Members of the World Jewish Congress Jewish Diplomatic Corps participated in a global campaign, organized in coordination with the Latin American Jewish Congress (LAJC), to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the AMIA Bombing. Members from all over the world have written editorials highlighting the imperative need to protect Jewish communities from global terror threats, drawing attention to the lasting impact of the AMIA bombing.
Co-Chair of the WJC Policy Council, Robert Goot, addressed the plenary session of the International Conference of Special Envoys, Parliamentarians, and Jewish Leaders, organized by the World Jewish Congress and the Latin American Jewish Congress in Buenos Aires, where he denounced Iranian and Hezbollah involvement and commended recent legal advances such as Argentina’s court ruling and proposed legislation for prosecuting the attackers in absentia.
JDCorps member Aviva Klompas asserts that to properly honor the victims of the AMIA bombing and prevent further conflict, global leaders must fully designate Hezbollah as a terror organization and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Writing from Buenos Aires, WJC’s Head of Programs & Strategy, Daniel Radomski, calls on his home country of Sweden to recognize the threat posed by the terror organization and ensure that the Jewish community is protected.
JDCorps member Déborah Lichentin reiterates the need for the international community to commemorate the AMIA bombing, honor the victims, and designate Hezbollah, in its entirety, a terrorist organization.
JDCorps member Gabriel Buznick explains that as global terrorism rises, the relentless pursuit of justice for the AMIA bombing serves not only to honor the victims but also as a profound testament to the Latin American Jewish Congress resilience and unwavering commitment to protecting the Jewish community.
JDCorps member Dorella Kamchi highlights the devastating July 18, 1994, terrorist attack on the Argentine Jewish Community Center (AMIA) in Buenos Aires, the deadliest in Latin American history. Thirty years later, the Hezbollah and Hamas attacks from October 7, 2023, continue to threaten not only Israel and the Jewish people all around the world but all nations that value freedom and democracy.
