NEW YORK – Following the United Nations General Assembly’s passage of a resolution approving the framework of formal recognition of a Palestinian State, the World Jewish Congress released the below statement:
“Any attempts by the international community to forcefully dictate the pathway towards a Palestinian State is a reward for years of terror directed at Israel’s citizens. It has been the long-held position of the World Jewish Congress that a resolution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict can only come about through direct negotiations between both parties.
“While United Nations members have rightfully clarified that Hamas ought to have no role in future governance of the Palestinian people, these same countries have failed to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization or condemn its persistent stranglehold upon the residents of Gaza and the West Bank.
“The World Jewish Congress will continue to stand in solidarity with the State of Israel as it works to rescue the remaining 48 hostages held by Hamas and ensure its citizens are protected from the forces that led to October 7th.”
