NEW YORK – Responding to today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, of an agreement to implement actions to address antisemitism at the University of Vermont, World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder issued the following statement:

“Jewish students are facing antisemitism at unprecedented levels on college campuses. I applaud the Biden administration’s action to work with the University of Vermont and outline concrete steps to make Jewish students safer on campus. Just as I have been inspired by the stories of students leading the effort to push back on their campuses, I have been troubled by the rise in hate that has forced them to do so.

“The World Jewish Congress takes campus antisemitism seriously, and urges all college and university leaders to treat this issue with the urgency that it deserves. Today’s development is a testament to the power of student voices, and we must continue to make them heard.”
