RIGA – On the 21st of January, WJC’s Technology and Human Rights Institute (TecHRI) External Relations Manager Máté Holler held a training on TecHRI’s reporting and tracking tool Hate Online: Preparedness and Empowerment (HO:PE), an EU-funded initiative, exhibiting actual reported cases of online antisemitism and Holocaust distortion. The session was attended by community leaders from the Baltic and Nordic regions shared the challenges they’ve experienced with digital hate and misinformation, and brainstormed ways to utilize resources such as the HO:PE tool in their ongoing efforts to protect their Jewish communities. Holler focused on how different EU legislations can aid us in advocating for better policies on platforms regarding hate speech and how the HO:PE tool can be effective used by community members and staff to tackle the serious underreporting of antisemitic hate speech online.
Concluding the training, the World Jewish Congress laid out its priorities and future plans for its work with affiliate communities – especially regarding tackling online hate, sharing opportunities for mutual engagement and collaboration on upcoming events.
