Presbyterian leaders in the United States met with Iran's controversial leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last week in New York, JTA reports. The heads of one of the leading US Protestant denominations said they wanted to tell Ahmadinejad of their support for Israel and their opposition to his denial of the Holocaust, the "Religious News Service" reports. Although the Iranian president did not agree with everything that was said at the meeting, he “seemed open to hearing what we had to say,” said Sara Lisherness, associate director of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program. Earlier this year, the US Presbyterian Church replaced a 2004 call for divestment from Israel with a policy of peaceful investment in Israel, the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
