A New York congresswoman is circulating a letter among colleagues urging the popular radio presenter Bill O'Reilly to apologize for advising a Jewish caller to move to Israel. “As members of Congress and as strong proponents of freedom of religion and the separation between church and state, we urge you to issue an apology to the caller for your insensitive and offensive remarks,” said the letter to O’Reilly drafted by Democratic congresswoman Nita Lowey. O’Reilly had made the comments on 3 December on his radio show when a Jewish caller said he had been subjected to proselytizing as a young man. O’Reilly suggested that Jews who cannot accept that America is a Christian-majority nation should consider moving to Israel.
