The Republican US Congressman Connie Mack has presented a draft resolution to the House of Representatives which expresses the support of Congress for the Jewish Community of Venezuela in its fight against "oppression and state-sponsored persecution". The text of the resolution also expresses "grave concern regarding the increased collaboration between the Iranian regime, its proxy militia Hezbollah, and the Venezuela Government, and the ramifications such collaboration will have on the Jewish community in Venezuela." Mack has already the signatures of 25 co-sponsors.
The Congressman from Florida pointed out: "The Jewish community in Venezuela has a deep-rooted history in the country that spans several centuries. They deserve our support and the support of others around the world in their struggle for freedom from oppression and state-sponsored persecution. Sadly and not surprisingly, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has created a hostile environment that has tolerated and encouraged targeted acts of violence and oppression against the Jewish community.
"Chávez's dangerous alliances with Iran and Syria, his support of terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah, and his inflammatory statements condemning Israel and the Jewish community, further prove he is a threat to the freedom, security and prosperity of the Jewish community and all Venezuelans. This important resolution lets the Venezuelan Jewish community know that the United States Congress stands with them and rejects Chavez's anti-Semitic views. The people of Venezuela deserve our support in their fight for peace and freedom," Mack said.
