The World Jewish Congress, the European Union of Jewish Students and the French Foundation for Memory of the Holocaust have jointly organized a student mission to Rwanda, in central Africa. The delegation, composed of Jewish and Rwandese student leaders, has arrived in the capital Kigali and stay in Rwanda for a 10-day program. The group will visit sites where some one million people were murdered in the 1994 genocide. This is an opportunity for the students to recall the atrocities, which have passed from the world’s conscience all too quickly. Through the project, the delegation hopes to proclaim once more “Never Again,” a principle which Jews are especially committed to uphold, said Peleg Reshef, WJC director for Future Generations activities. The various associations participating in this project wish to work on the memory of the Holocaust and the Rwandan genocide in an original and innovative manner, while organizing intercultural, inter-university and inter-institutional exchanges. The program brings together young people concerned with these past events, heirs of the Holocaust, students conducting research on violence, and those working to broadcast Rwandese history and cultural traditions.
