The South African broadcasting authority has ruled that a Muslim radio station, 'Radio 786', had aired hate speech. The Broadcasting Monitoring and Complaints Committee of South Africa ruled in favor of the complaint made by the South African Jewish Board of Deputies against a the Cape Town Muslim radio station. The dispute began after a May 1998 broadcast in which Yakub Zaki, a historian at the Muslim Institute in London, said that only 1 million-plus Jews were killed during World War II, and none in gas chambers. There will be a hearing later this month to determine a penalty for the station.
