Rabbi Israel Singer, the chairman of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) Governing Board, has drawn a distinction between Jewish Diaspora organizations which he said "believe that the most important purpose of their existence is to save Israel and to protect Israel", and the WJC. In an interview with the "Jerusalem Post", he said that "those people are bringing water to the well, and reproducing what already exists in Israel". Singer added: "No one needs them. No one wants them. And we don't need their help." The WJC assists small Jewish communities which have few institutions and little clout. "You can't tell the Jewish community of Barbados to survive on its own," he explained.
