Serbian President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica have met with a delegation of the World Jewish Congress, led by Chairman Israel Singer. In discussions with Tadic, it was noted that in the past years many Jewish synagogues in Kosovo have been destroyed. The WJC delegation reported that a large portion of the Jewish community that fled from Kosovo now resides in central Serbia. Prime Minister Kostunica said that a great amount of understanding exists between Serbian and Jewish people and thanked the WJC for the support it offered to Serbs who became refugees after riots in Kosovo in March 2004. Mr Singer said that he wanted to expand the cooperation between the WJC and the Serbian Jewish Community.
