The main purpose of the conference is to establish how International and national Jewish agencies can support Israel in the rising tide to delegitimize the Jewish State and how Israel can enhance the Jewish Diaspora’s agenda to combat anti-Semitism.
The major focus for Latin America is the Iranian incursion into Latin America and its rising influence on that continent; to radicalize the next generation of Moslems (and Christian Arabs) against Israel, to foment anti-Semitism, a major action having already taken place previously in the bombing of the AMIA building in Buenos Aires.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested that working groups should examine different ways to meet the above challenges and to make recommendations as to how to combat the dangers described above.
It is clear that Iranian access to the continent occurs mainly through the gates of Caracas, but also through La Paz and Montevideo and through sympathetic and longstanding radical elements in Paraguay.
The Iran-Venezuela axis is the machine that enables Ahmadinejad to undertake his adventures on the continent against Israel with the collusion of Chavez and for Iran to foment anti-Semitism either with or without his collusion.
The working group is therefore requested to address the following issues:
- Describe what members know about Iran’s activities and associations with willing helpers
- Consider what actions should be taken to counter and to expose such activities, both specifically and generally
Bearing in mind that the launching pad begins in Caracas, of special concern is the condition of Venezuela’s Jewish community and what can be done to protect them.
Iran is not the only perpetrator – there are other more longstanding elements fomenting hatred against Jews and the State of Israel and while these can be touched on during our deliberations the major focus for the working group should be the Iranian influence.
Participants should try to keep their reports short and to the point. This first session is a general scan for comments and ideas which will be summarized and presented to the next session of the working group taking place tomorrow at 1.30 pm where the issues and remedies will be explored further.
