Spanish police have arrested 10 people in an operation targeted at Islamic terrorists on Wednesday. Most of those detained in the city of Barcelona were of Pakistani nationality. A police spokesman said that the arrests were not linked to March 11 Madrid train bombings by Islamic militants in which 191 people were killed. Police searched a number of houses but no further details were immediately available. Police detained five suspected Islamic militants in eastern France on Wednesday as part of a inquiry into the 11 September 2001 attacks, but there was no indication of any link between the two operations. Some 55 people have been arrested in connection with the March attacks in Madrid when bombs exploded on packed commuter trains. Of those, 30 are in jail or under close watch of the court and 25 have been released.
