A University of Colorado professor who compared victims of the World Trade Center attacks to a Nazi war criminal has said he mourns for everyone killed in the terrorist attacks and conceded that he could have explained himself better. Ward Churchill called the victims "little Eichmanns", a reference to Adolf Eichmann, who organized the Nazi campaign to exterminate European Jews. Churchill said he did not mean to suggest the World Trade Center "technocrats" were Nazis but rather were, like Eichmann, bureaucrats who participated in an immoral system. Explaining his position he said "If someone were to ask me, 'Do you feel sorrow for the victims of 9/11,' of course I do. Let's begin with the children. Yes, they were innocent. And I mourn them. But they were not more innocent than a half-million Iraqi children." Since his comments came to light The professor has resigned his position as head of the department of ethnic studies and the University is examining whether his tenure can be revoked.
