Several dozen synagogues and mosques across the United States and Canada have taken part in a campaign against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia. The initiative, 'Weekend of Twinning', calls for closer cooperation between rabbis and imams based in larger cities, including Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Palm Beach, St. Louis, and Washington DC.
The venture encompassed 50 mosques and 50 synagogues across the United States and Canada. It featured rabbis appearing before Muslim congregants in mosques while imams addressed Jewish worshipers at synagogues. In addition, workshops and symposiums were held to examine ways to combat anti-Semitism and anti-Islamic hatred.
The 'Weekend of Twinning' is the brainchild of Rabbi Marc Schneier, chairman of the World Jewish Congress United States and head of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding.
