At the 7th edition of the Academic Consultation of Orthodox Christianity and Judaism in Athens, Greece, Greek Orthodox and Jewish leaders discussed how to meet the ‘Ethical Challenges and Religious Perspectives’ in a world affected by crisis. Thirty delegates attended the meeting, which was sponsored by the Greek Government, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. It was co-chaired by Rabbi Richard A. Marker, the chairman of the International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, who serves as director of the Liaison Office of the Orthodox Church to the European Union in Brussels.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou send greetings, and the latter also received delegation of Jewish and Orthodox leaders, as did the archbishop of Athens. The consultation concluded with a dinner hosted by the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the Athens Jewish Community at the Jewish Cultural Center of Athens.
