An Israeli court of first instance has given the go-ahead for the election of a new Jerusalem Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church. The ruling rejected a motion filed by deposed Jerusalem Patriarch Irineos I. Irineos, who was ousted in May following allegations and criticism regarding the long-term leasing of property to Jewish interests and who has been reduced to the rank of a monk, has made continuous efforts to hold on to his former post.
