The Yisrael Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman, a former Israel foreign minister and currently the chairman of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs Committee, has reacted harshly to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s claim that Israel was responsible for the removal of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi from office. Lieberman called Erdogan "the successor to Goebbels," Hitler's chief propagandist, and said he was “full of hatred and incitement."
"He [Erdogan] has continued Goebbels' ways," Lieberman told Israel's 'Army Radio'.
Erdogan on Tuesday accused Israel of complicity in the Egypt coup that ousted Morsi, claiming he had a evidence proving Israel's involvement. He reportedly referred to the video of a press conference held by Israeli Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and French philosopher and author Bernard-Henri Lévy in 2011 in which the latter displayed his opposition to a possible government led by the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
Lieberman has also repeated his opposition to any type of apology for the Mavi Marmara incident in 2010. "Those who apologized before Turkey [over the deadly Turkish-led Gaza-bound flotilla in 2010] should do some soul-searching; so should those who attacked me and Yisrael Beytenu for our criticism over Israel's apology," he said.
