NEW YORK – Reacting to an antisemitic curriculum set for use April 29 to May 10 in Irish primary and secondary schools, World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder issued the following statement:
“The World Jewish Congress condemns the unabashedly antisemitic curriculum titled ‘Talk about Palestine,’ developed by Teachers for Palestine, which comprises members of the Irish National Teachers Organisation and the Teachers Union of Ireland.
“This curriculum fans the flames of hate at a time of heightened global tensions and surging antisemitism, particularly in academic settings. For instance, the materials mendaciously charge Israel with genocide; omit the atrocities of October 7, including the mass murders and rapes that precipitated the latest round of fighting; and fail to reference the indiscriminate missile attacks on Israeli civilians as well as the Israelis taken hostage by Hamas, among many other egregious lapses.
“Moreover, the curriculum urges students to ‘join the fight for Palestinian justice,’ and does not mention any peace process or two-state solution. In other words, this initiative actively promotes division, incites violence, and targets Jewish students for bullying and isolation.
“The World Jewish Congress calls on the Irish government and educational authorities to intervene immediately and prevent the use of this pernicious curriculum. It is crucial that educational materials foster understanding and dialogue rather than incite division and hate. We stand with the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland and advocate for the adoption of a curriculum that reflects historical truths and promotes peace.”
