The Greek Jewish community has protested against the circulation of a video on the internet which shows the desecration of a Holocaust memorial on the island of Rhodes by local students. “We alerted the interior minister and the education minister on Friday, but so far neither of them has replied or condemned the incident,” Moses Constantinis, president of the Central Jewish Council of Greece (KIS), told the AFP news agency.
The video clip is available on Youtube.com, and it shows a youngster urinating at the Shoah memorial, with anti-Semitic music being played in the background. “We are disappointed that there have been no official reactions,” the KIS president said, adding that the Jewish community would lodge a legal complaint against the authors of the video.
Of the 1,800 Jews that lived on Rhodes before World War II, only 150 survived the Holocaust.
