The director of the Academy of Lyon, Alain Morvan, has been censored by the Council of State of France for his comments regarding the far-right National Front's deputy leader, Bruno Gollnisch. The Council, the highest administrative court in France, reprimanded Morvan for not respecting Gollnisch's presumption of innocence. Morvan has repeatedly called for the most severe possible sanctions to be taken against Gollnisch for questioning the scope of the Holocaust. Gollnisch was recently suspended from his position at the University of Lyon for five years, and will be brought to trial in the upcoming months for his statements. Gollnisch responded to the Council’s ruling by calling it a “historic victory for public freedom.”
