Hate groups in the US have been gloating over the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in the southern US. white supremacist and anti-Semitic bulletin boards and internet sites have been flooded with posts relishing the destruction caused in the states of Louisiana and Mississippi, which have huge non-white populations. Many bigots expressed hope that the hurricane would be deadly and 'cleanse' the areas hit. They also claimed that Jews would seek to benefit from the devastation and that Jewish control of the media skewed the reporting of the hurricane.
