The Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has threatened that Iran could face total oblivion if it chose to launch a nuclear attack against Israel. On the eve of the Pennsylvania primary election, which she won by 55 per cent of the vote compared to opponent Barack Obama’s 45 per cent, the New York senator said: "The question was, 'If Iran were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel, what would our response be?' And I want the Iranians to know that if I am president, we will attack Iran”. Speaking on ABC television, Clinton added: “I want them to understand that, because it does mean that they have to look very carefully at their society. Because whatever stage of development they might be in their nuclear weapons program in the next ten years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."
Later, Clinton told reporters at a polling station near Philadelphia that Iran had to be made aware of the "high price" it would have to pay for any nuclear strike. If the Islamic Republic were so "reckless to use them against the United States or an ally in a way that would destabilize the world, they would have to take the consequences," she said. The New York senator said that if elected president, she would do whatever she could to prevent Iran manufacturing nuclear weapons in the first place.
