A 129-year-old restored torah has been donated to a Warsaw synagogue. Led by Poland's chief Rabbi, Michael Schudrich, the scroll was brought into Nozyk Synagogue. Men cheered and danced in circles while women filed the balcony on top in a scene reminiscent of days when Warsaw's Jewish population numbered one million people. Warsaw's current Jewish population is estimated to be between a few hundred and a few thousand. "This is a home coming," said Harley Lippman, vice president of the American Jewish Congress, told the news agency AP. "The Nazis didn't win, Hitler didn't win. We are here today and the Jewish community is growing." Lippman purchased the tattered torah scroll during a visit to Poland, had it completely restored, and donated it to Poland's Jewish community on the occasion of his 12-year-old daughter's Bat-Mitzva.
