A senior Canadian Jewish leader has said that over the next generation survival is the real issue for Jews worldwide. The vice-president of B'nai Brith Canada, Frank Dimant, said that Jews face Islamic terrorism in Israel, "the new anti-Semitism" in North America and Europe, and assimilation and demographic decline in North America. He said the situation in Europe is worse than in North America, because a deep-seated, historical anti-Semitism is joined with a fear of Muslim immigrants harbouring radical fundamentalists. "Most of the world's religions are entering the 21st century and learning to coexist, but Islam is still fighting the Crusades."
