Queen Elizabeth II of the UK has agreed to be patron of the country's new Holocaust Memorial Day Trust. The charitable trust will take over the organization of the annual Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27 from the government. It was launched formally in London yesterday at a gathering of survivors of Nazi atrocities, and Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu leaders. In 2006, the remembrance will be on Thursday 26 January, as a mark of respect for the Jewish Sabbath.
