A Belgian public television channel has sparked new controversy after promoting a travel show with an advertising campaign in a magazine featuring a caricature of Hitler. In the ad, published in the weekly lifestyle magazine 'Flair', a TV presenter appears as a stripper, wearing a Hitler-style moustache and an armband bearing a swastika. The ad was run to promote a program featuring a guided tour of Berlin on 'Canvas', part of the Flemish public television VRT.
The text on the ad says that the first picture that one finds when typing "German" on Google is that of Adolf Hitler. It adds: "Discover the real Europe, not the clichés." Last month, the same channel had been criticized over a cooking show that featured Adolf Hitler's favorite dish. The show was finally cancelled following protests from the Jewish community and former deportees.
