A Belgian Jewish sports club has filed a complaint with the police against a Brussels soccer club after a teenage match during which anti-Semitic insults were hurled at Jewish players. According to the complaint, lodged by Maccabi Bruxelles, a sporting association representing the Jewish community, crowd abuse had become so serious that the referee had had to suspend play. Furthermore, according to the referee's disciplinary report members of the winning team, FC Haren, celebrated their victory in the changing rooms with roars of "Heil Hitler!" and "Hip! hip! Hurray for Hitler!". A spokesman for Maccabi said "The language was particularly intolerable to us because the grandparents of some of our players died in Nazi concentration camps. The courts should impose penalties for racism against the culprits and against the club management, because it has failed to react." The official in charge of junior teams at the FC Haren club, said "They're only boys of 14 to 16 who often say nasty things", but added that they would be severely punished if the behavior was proved to be intolerable.
