A police captain in Argentina has been fired on charges of racism, anti-Semitism and pro-Nazi behavior. Captain Juan Garro, head of the Special Operations Group, an elite police force in the province of Santa Fé, was relieved of all duties on Wednesday after a judicial investigation brought about by a complaint from one of Garro’s officers. The officer, whose identity was not revealed, said Garro had harassed him constantly because of his dark skin and hurled epithets at him for being married to a Jewish woman. The complainant claimed Garro said that “all blacks are inferior” and that “if Hitler was alive and here your family would be dead.” When the Santa Fé police chief appeared at Garro’s office to fire him, he was shocked to find a framed swastika hanging on the wall over the captain’s desk. Garro said it was given to him years ago at the police academy.
