NEW YORK--The World Jewish Congress convened its Executive Committee virtually on Tuesday, bringing together over 50 Jewish leaders from across 22 countries to address pressing issues facing the Jewish world. During the meeting, the committee adopted a resolution to hold the next WJC Plenary Assembly, the organization’s highest decision-making body, in May 2025 in Jerusalem, Israel.
During the meeting it was announced that the WJC would establish a Task Force on Islamic Extremism. This initiative underscores the urgent need to counter the threats posed by Iran’s state-sponsored terrorism, Islamic extremism, and global networks of violence. The Task Force plans to highlight that these dangers extend beyond Israel, targeting Jewish communities worldwide and undermining the core principles of democracy.
The Executive Committee also engaged in in-depth discussions on the evolving geopolitical landscape and its implications for Israel and Jewish communities around the globe, especially in the aftermath of the United States presidential elections. Executive members also shared critical insights into the situation in their home countries, the state of antisemitism globally, and the greater situation in the Middle East.
