The World Jewish Congress joins the Indian government and people in mourning the 166 innocent victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks on 26 November 2008 that shook the human conscience and drew widespread global condemnation. We honor their memory.
The Jewish community in India was also targeted during these attacks. Among the victims were Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka Holtzberg, who was six months pregnant, and four other hostages at the Mumbai Chabad House who were murdered by the terrorists. We will never forget them.
We echo the call of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who said, when he laid a wreath at the memorial in Mumbai last month, that “fighting terrorism must be a global priority for every country on earth.” The international community and all governments across the globe must do everything in their power to eradicate support for any and all terrorist groups, wherever they may be located.
