The Republican US senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham have called for the United States to take action to stop Iran's nuclear program. At a press conference in Jerusalem on Sunday evening, they said a nuclear Iran was the greatest possible danger in the Middle East. The two senators said they believed the American people would support a US military strike to stop the Islamic Republic from getting nuclear weapons.
"If the president of the United States told the American people that the Iranians were about to acquire or develop nuclear weapons and it poses a direct threat to security not only to the US and the world, I'm confident the American people would support the president of the United States," McCain said.
"Most Americans believe the Iranians are trying to get a nuclear weapon," Graham said. "Most Americans believe they would use it if they got it; most Americans believe they're serious about destroying the State of Israel."
"Most Americans believe that radical Islam is a threat to the American way of life," he continued. "So I think a case can be made. It just has to be made. We're war weary but we're not tired of being free."
Both McCain and Graham said Iran's recent election of a new president would not change the country's nuclear ambitions.
