The University of Washington in Seattle has received a commitment for a US$ 10 million donation for its Jewish Studies program. The donation, given by philanthropist Althea Stroum, will be used to fund scholarships, create new endowed chairs and fund existing book and lecture series. The university said it would rename the Jewish Studies program after Stroum and her late husband Samuel, who have previously contributed to the university. Samuel Stroum, who died in 2001, served as a university regent for 13 years.
