One of America’s most notorious anti-Semites is said to be in hiding as lawyers for a Montana Jewish woman scour to country to serve him with papers in a lawsuit alleging “emotional distress.”
Tanya Gersh, a real estate agent from the small town of Whitefish, Montana is looking to sue Andrew Anglin, the founder of the Neo-Nazi website The Daily Stormer, over an online campaign of intimidation he ran against her late last year.
Anglin had called on the readers of his website to “take action” against Gersh after Sherry Spencer, a Whitefish resident and mother of prominent Neo-Nazi Richard Spencer, complained that the Jewish woman had tried to intimidate her into moving.
The Daily Stormer posted Gersh's address and contact information online, as well as that of her husband and son, leading to a sustained campaign of harassment.
In early January Anglin attempted to organize a retaliatory march through Whitefish aimed "against Jews, Jewish businesses and everyone who supports either” but was forced to shelve his plans after the city refused him a permit.
Gersh, who is represented by the Southern Poverty Law Center, filed suit Anglin for violating of a Montana anti-intimidation law in April but have been unable to track him down in order to serve him with papers.
“Andrew Anglin knew he had an online army primed to attack with the click of a mouse,” SPLC President Richard Cohen said in a statement after the suit was filed. “We intend to hold him accountable for the suffering he has caused Ms. Gersh and to send a strong message to those who use their online platforms as weapons of intimidation.”
