On World Children’s Day, World Jewish Congress Calls For Release of Hostages in Gaza

NEW YORK – In connection with World Children’s Day, World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder issued the following statement:

“On this World Children's Day, a day dedicated to the welfare and rights of children around the world, the World Jewish Congress emphatically calls for the immediate release of all hostages, including the nearly 40 children, held by Hamas. The decision by Hamas to kidnap children is a grievous and unconscionable act, demonstrating its callous and evil disregard for innocent lives and the sanctity of childhood.

“As we observe a day that symbolizes the protection, education and freedom of children, the continued detainment of these young individuals stands as a tragic contradiction. These children, who deserve a life free from fear and conflict, find themselves caught in a situation that robs them of their basic rights and freedoms.

In alignment with the principles upheld by UNICEF and the global community, we urgently appeal for the resolution of this heartbreaking situation. We urge all parties involved and international mediators to prioritize the immediate and safe return of these children to their families. The World Jewish Congress remains steadfast in its belief that the well-being of children is a fundamental priority that transcends all political and ideological boundaries. Let us collectively work towards ensuring the safety and future of our children, who represent hope and promise for a more peaceful world.”
