A Native Canadian leader has apologized to Jews across the country for any anger or hurt caused by a letter he sent to the media last week. Chief Terrance Nelson of the Rouseau River Anishinabe First Nation in southern Manitoba was criticizing media coverage of the trial of a Saskatchewan man charged with promoting hatred of Jews. Nelson wrote that the trial of David Ahenakew was getting too much coverage. He also made critical comments about news organizations owned by Jews. Assembly of First Nations National chief Phil Fontaine expressed concern Nelson's statements could incite violence against Jewish people. In his apology, Nelson described his statement as a late night rush job that he should have reviewed more closely.
