A court in Germany has rejected the suspected Nazi death camp guard Ivan Demjanjuk's attempt to halt his deportation to Germany, saying his deportation was a matter of US authorities. The Berlin court ruled on an emergency suit filed against the German Justice Ministry for its role in the deportation of the 89-year-old, accused of being an accessory to 29,000 murders at the Nazi death camp Sobibor in occupied Poland.
The judges rejected the argument that Germany could block the deportation, saying the decision lied entirely with the American authorities. A court spokesman said added that judges found the 89-year-old had been sufficiently able to have his case reviewed in the United States. Demjajuk’s son John said in a statement to AP that the decision would be appealed.
