A conference in Italy marks the 100th birthday of Avram Goren Goldstein, a leading philanthropist who supported Jewish educational, cultural and other projects in Italy, Israel and Romania. The conference entitled “Judaism and Western Culture at the Beginning of the 20th Century” is organized by the Goren Goldstein Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Milan. Goren Goldstein was born 28 July 1905 in Romania. He and his family left the country for Palestine in 1944 and later moved to the city of Milan in northern Italy. Goldstein became a successful businessman and established a family foundation in 1972 to support a wide-range of Jewish programs.
