Chez Goldenberg, a well-known Jewish delicatessen shop in Paris' Jewish quarter, is to close, at least temporarily. The restaurant in the central Marais district is expected shut its doors within the next few days. The restaurant, one of the few Ashkenazi institutions remaining in Paris, was ordered closed for failing to meet city health regulations. This is not Goldenberg’s first offense: in March 2002, the owners were ordered to pay a fine after inspectors found partially frozen fish and meat of dubious quality. In 1982, the Goldenberg was the site of a bombing in which six people were killed and 22 injured. The manager told the French journal "Marianne" that they were hoping to re-open after a sanitary overhaul of the premises.
