Denmark’s Jewish community has expressed concern about an increase in anti-Semitic attacks in the country. The "Kristeligt Dagblad" newspaper reported that there were as many attacks on Danish Jews in the first half of 2006 as in the entire year 2005. Most attacks have been aimed at people going to synagogue or at children on their way to school. Commenting on anti-Semitism in Denmark’s Muslim community, the paper writes, “It’s embarrassing that a country like Denmark, renowned for having saved most of its Jewish population during the Second World War, is now having to warn Jews not to wear religious symbols like the kippah or the Star of David in public.”
