The leader of the right-wing British National Party (BNP) party, Nick Griffin, has been arrested on suspicion of racial incitement. Griffin, who has a criminal record for Holocaust denial, was among 12 members of the extremist party questioned after an investigation sparked by a BBC television program. He was later released on bail. Although the BNP has attempted to portray itself as a non-bigoted party, winning more than 800,000 votes in May’s European elections, 'The Secret Agent' program showed members confessing to carrying out racist attacks. In the documentary, BNP founder John Tyndall, who also was arrested this week, was shown calling Conservative leader Michael Howard an “interloper” because of his Romanian Jewish background.
