After a meeting with the representative of the Jewish Claims Conference in Germany, Moshe Jahoda, the president of Berlin's Jewish Community, Albert Meyer, has told the newspaper "Berliner Zeitung" that he intends to reach a settlement not involving the courts regarding the restitution of properties. Meyer and his board have demanded up to € 20 million (US$ 26 million) from the Claims Conference to refurbish properties in the eastern part of the city already returned, but a settlement may be much lower. According to Meyer, both sides want to reach a solution by May 2005.
