A catholic church in central Rome was defaced with anti-Semitic graffiti on Friday just hours after world leaders commemorated the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The graffiti, which was quickly removed by city workers, referred directly to the commemorations and read "27/01/2005, 60 years of lies, Juden Raus" (Jews Get Out). The Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, said that city hall would shortly launch a campaign to remove all anti-Semitic graffiti from walls in the Italian capital "in honor of the victims of the Shoah".
