As a Jew born and growing up in Germany, whose religious community is often considered as some kind of vestige of the past, as a relic of a former once flourishing culture, I am proud to be Jewish because, despite centuries of persecution, genocide, and attempts at erasure, the Jewish people have not only survived but have also shown incredible resilience and resistance throughout history.
Risen from the ashes of the Shoa, the courageous Jewish pioneers laid the foundation for the re-establishment of Jewish life in Germany. I feel it to be an honor to continue their mission and to ensure remembrance, knowing I am not standing here for my own but also for the six million brothers and sisters that were murdered during the Holocaust. With the knowledge of the painful past in my heart and the hope for a vibrant future in my mind, I will tirelessly go on with these efforts.
My parents taught me the principles and values of Judaism, which shaped my intrinsic motivation to fight for a secure and thriving Jewish life in Germany. Our Jewish history and the Jewish traditions I grew up with empower me day by day and strengthen my belief to carry on. I know that I am a part of a chain that unites thousands of years old past Jewish generations with future Jewish generations – a proud part that stands up for the Jewish community and will not remain silent when it is threatened. I was brought up to never give in and never give up when it comes to my Jewish identity - And I will never do!
